Chinese New Year

January 21, 2023

Chinese have practiced Chinese New Year for over 4000 years to pay respect to the god of agriculture, and this day also means everything (the universe) starts new again, full of hope and anticipation.
Different regions have their customs to welcome the new year with one common practice, celebrating with family and community.
Eating dumplings means a reunion with family members who may have traveled or lived far away. Giving Gāodiǎn (糕點, similar to Dim Sum) to neighbors means to wish each other prosperity, health, and harmony.
Today I got one tangerine with leaves,  two oranges (color gold and green), and three Gāodiǎn (糕點), a Southern Chinese tradition with specific wisdom in each number of the items.
